The Spain Park Jaguars Youth Football program fields teams from Kindergarten through Sixth grade (ages 5 – 12). Organized under the Hoover Athletic Association, the young JAGS are closely affiliated with the athletic department of the Spain Park High School Jaguars. The young JAGS practice at the Spain Park High school athletic facilities and play their home games under the lights on the artificial turf of the actual Jaguar high school stadium. Participating within the Jefferson-Shelby Youth Football League (JSYFL), the JAGS play teams from the greater Birmingham area, including teams from Oak Mountain, Chelsea, Pelham, Vestavia, Hoover, Helena, Briarwood, Trussville, and Homewood.
The JSYFL is offered to players in K-6. We divide the teams by where each player will attend high school, Spain Park or Hoover. In most cases there is one team per grade with the exception of the K1 team. This team combines Kindergarten with 1st graders. Each team could have up to 39 players per team and usually average about 32 players per team. The guaranteed playing time for each player in K-2 is 8 plays per game, 3rd and 4th is 6 plays per game and 5th and 6th grade is 4 plays per game. If a team reaches the playoffs then there is not a guaranteed play requirement. The JSYFL also offers unrestricted weight for offensive and defensive line players with restricted weights for other positions.
The HAA Football registration fee is $195 for all age groups. This fee includes:
2 game jerseys
Spirit pack (practice shorts and t-shirt)
All games for the season
